Week 1 Predictions 2018
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
This week Andrew, Artem, Logan, and Tommy (in spirit) discuss some of the games in the week 1 college football season.
Intro: We pay brief homage to Clint Dempsey as he retired yesterday.
2:15 We talk about the Zach Smith controversies (since we may have lost the audio data from our ontrovery episode). Zah Smith did not abuse his wife (according to Zach Smith) but will not comment on sleeping with his secretary, ordering dildos to Ohio State stadium, or masturbating in the white house bathroom.
9:30 We discuss what we're most looking forward to this season, including teams and games we're excited to see.
17:45 NW @ Purdue: Purdue hasn't beathen NorthWestern since 2010. NorthWestern has a great QB prospect but with injuries for NW and a surgin Purdue program will this be the year Purdue breaks their losing streak?
21:00 Wake Forest @ Tulane: Tulane is a struggling program. Will a homefield advantage give them the edge over a young Wake Forest team?
24:25 Syracuse @ Western Michigan: Tim Lester (the WMU head coach) has a long history with Syracuse from his days as an Offensive Coordinator. Can Tim's experience overcome Syracuse and their talented QB Eric Dungey?
28:41 Army @ Duke: Duke has a stout defense which showed it can stop the veer offense against GT last year. Can Army overcome this defense and stop Duke's offense?
31:31 SDSU @ Stanford: Stanford is a 15.5 point favorite over a team they lost to last year in San Diego State University. Will this game be closer than the experts think? Also Andrew gives us information on the history of Wake Forest University... while we're talking about Stanford.
35:15 Colorado v Colorado State: Was Colorado State's performance last week against Hawaii, representative of how they will perform in this game? Also Andrew doesn't know how to gamble.
39:30 Texas v Maryland: Maryland has alot of off the field issues. Can Maryland overcome these issues and compete against a talented Texas team?
44:45 Ole Miss v Texas Tech:Are Landsharks better than Tortillas?
47:40 Washington v Auburn: Tommy makes some poignant arguments in a game no one else wants to pick because we have no idea what to make of Auburn.
52:45 Tennessee v West Virginia: do any of us really expect WVU to lose this game after seeing how UT played last year?
54:35 North Carolina @ Cal: UNC has one of the weirdest set of opening games in all of college football as they go to the west coast to face down Cal.
56:53 Michigan @ Notre Dame: The highlight matchup this week. Which team will boost their playoff chances by winning this matchup?
01:01:30 Bama v Louisville: Why do people talk shit before playing Bama?
01:05:00 BYU @ Arizona: Can BYU snap their losing streak?
01:08:00 Navy @ Hawaii: Can Hawaii keep the upsets going over a tough Navy team? Also we discuss how coach Kenny is coming back home.
01:12:20 Miami v. LSU: Can Miami get the turnover chain going against LSU?
01:15:05 VT @ FSU: Will we see much offense in this game?
01:19:10 We make our personal picks and Andrew spikes the Microphone.

2018 SEC Predictions
Sunday Aug 19, 2018
Sunday Aug 19, 2018
This week the whole crew is here to cover the SEC and expectations for teams going into the 2018 season.
1:44 Vandy is the perennial "weak point" of the SEC. this year they lose some talent on defense but return a decent young QB. Can Vandy take advantage of what may be a down year for some major SEC East opponents.
5:14 Kentucky has a tough scedule to stae down and many questions at various positions, especially QB. The question on everyone's mind this year is can they finally beat Florida?
9:11 Dan Mullin steps in at Florida. He was the offensive coordinator who coached Tim Tebow. Florida has alot of talent, but will be enoug to over come hated rival uga?
15:04 Tennessee had one of the craziest offseasons for any team in recent memory. After last year this storied program will see if they can get their feet back under them and start rebuilding.
18:50 South Carolina returns alot of players this year, but do they have the talent to compete with other teams in the SEC east?
23:56 Mizzou is the clear frontrunner to win the SEC east (no sarcasm). Defense was their biggest weakness last year. Can their defense give enough support to Drew Lock to win some big games?
29:34 Arkansas hired Chad Morris from SMu, they do have some position battles but its fair to say expectations are low for the upcoming season. What might we see out of a developing new offensive system.
33:18 Artem bashes Arkansas (which is a very Texas A&M thing to do) and then discusses what changes we can expect at TAMU now that Jimbo Fisher is at the helm of the program.
39:12 We ponder whether Gus Malzahn is disrespected as a coach given his recent performances in seasons at Auburn. Also Big Kat Bryant is an awesome name.
44:11 Miss State is a lowkey darkhorse to win the SEC west if they can get their offense running.
48:00 LSU has been in a downhill slump as a program since they last won the national championship. Is the influene of the fanbase causing a negative impact on the program?
54:01 uga is gonna be good this year
59:34 Bama is also gonna be good this year
1:07:30 Ole Miss has a new mascot
1:09:14 We make or conference championship picks.

2018 ACC Previews
Friday Aug 03, 2018
Friday Aug 03, 2018
This week the gangs all here to cover the the teams in the ACC. The conference looks like its Clemson's for the taking, but strange things have a tendency of happening in the ACC, and you can expect this year to be no different.
8:09 mark we cover the big boy in the conference. Clemson probably has the best defense in college football this year, the question becomes how their position battle at QB will be resolved considering a tough early season schedule.
17:22 FSU has plenty of talent but they have to dea with a coaching transition and a potential position battle at QB of their own.
22:43 NC State exceeded expectations last year to many people's surprise. The admisitration at NC State has put a larger focus on improving the football program and it seems to be paying dividends. With that said we'll have to see how they handle some serious set backs this year, especially on defense where they lose most of their talented athletes.
26:33 Papa is no longer in the house for Louisville, and neither is Lamar Jackson. How far should we expect these losses to set them back.
30:19 Wake is loaded with players that are waiting to prove themselves. If the players succeed Wake might see a bowl game, or potentially more, in their future.
34:10 BC needs to prove themselves on offense if they want to pull off some potential upsets this year.
37:30 Miami is dealing with some fan unhappiness regarding their current starter at the QB position, however it might be more useful for them to focus on how the team performs on defense this year if they want to make it past Clemson.
41:48 VT had high expectations this year... until they lost many of their players and perssonnel this offseason to a combination of injuries and scandals. This may be a year VT will have to be happy with making a bowl game.
47:01 GT has a new D-coordinator. The ACC Sports Journal seems to think he will have 13 players on the field based on their draw up of his offense. What can fans realistically expect to see on the field.
54:58 Virginia made a bowl game last year. They have to replace a QB but this may give Mendenhall a chance to go back to a zone read offense he is familiar with. We'll have to watch closely to see how this plays out.
57:50 Duke should not be underestimated, especially with Cutcliffe at the helm. with what may be a down year in the ACC Coastal could we potentially see Duke in the Top 25 this year?
1:01:18 UNC fell apart last year due to injuries. They have talent this year if they can stay healthy, but can they find leadership on a team that had most of its more experienced members graduate last year.
1:05:15 Pitt may be interesting to watch with many weapons on offense to take advantage of.
1:08:08 We almost forgot about Syracuse... that's all I have to say about Syracuse

Saturday Jul 28, 2018
Saturday Jul 28, 2018
This week Logan ans Andrew discuss the PAC-12 and the many new coaches there:
at the 5:54 mark we begin our discussion of Arizona State and their acquisition of Herm Edwards. Much has been made about the decision to bring on Herm, and what a 64 year old who's last experience with football was 10 years ago in the NFL can bring to a college football program. What can we expect out of Herm's first year?
at the 13:31 mark Logan and Andrew talk about their high expectations for Kevin Sumlin as he steps into the Head Coaching Position at Arizona.
at 21:06 Andrew goe into great detail about why he has alot of hope for Oregon this year.
at 25:25 We talk about the new coach at Oregon State and how long it may take for this team to make a bowl game in future seasons.
at 32:04 We discuss Chip Kelly's return to college football at UCLA. His stint in the NFL is often frowned upon by critics but Andrew mentions how, compared to coaches who made similar job changes, it could be viewed as a success. We discuss the Chip Kelly style and how it will impact the way things are run at UCLA.
at 41:19 we discuss USC. We also talk about why they St. Brown family is obsessed with making their children into Pharaohs and the number of talented private schools in California. Oh yeah, in case you missed it USC is going to be good this year.
at 48:17 we discuss Utah and throw in some interewsting facts about Weber State.
at 52:15 we discuss Colorado and how coach McEntyre is on the hotseat this year.
55:57 we discuss Washington State and some of the issues they've dealt with this offseason.
1:00:47 brings up Cal, and how Logan knows nothing about Cal and refuses to learn about them.
1:03:33 Stanford is loaded with talent, could potentially be a 1 seed in the playoff, and they have endowments for their coaches.
1:09:48 we talk about Washington, because we love coach Peterson.
Tune in for this and more, this week on the Toe Meets Leather Podcast.
